ST. DUJAM"S DAY
St, Dujam is the patron saint of our hometown Split. St. Dujam"s Day comes on May 7th. He was a 3rd century Bishop of the old town Salona and the Martyr - beheaded by the Emperor Diocletain in 304 in Salona. His relics were later moved to the Cathedral of St. Duje"s in Split.
So, no matter what the weather is like- every year St. Duje"s Day is the sunny and happy day for all of us. Everything begins in the morning with the procession in the center of the old town. It is very croweded and a lot of people from Split, including visitors from the places around, take a part in it slowly walking and praying. The holly mass is taking place on Riva and in the Cathedral throughout the day, and the great fiesta is all over the town.
We can see the groups singing, people buying souvenirs and delicious food from uor grandma"s kitchen, boys and girls selling lottery tickets all over...
Just great and happy day! The fiesta ends late in the night!
HOW DO YOU SPEND ST. DUJE"S DAY?

"In the morning I go with my family to the centre of the town.We go to the mass in the Cathedral and walk around. We have a family lunch together. After lunch my grandpa usually talks some stories about "old good times". we listen carefully. We all have a great time...
Valerija- 7A grade:
"I usually spend the day with my family and friends. We go to the town, taking part in the ceremony,buying souvenirs- some bracelets, wooden things, a lot of toys. We have an ice-cream, too. I do not buy lottery tickets, but my friends do, so we have a lot of fun...
Doris- 7A grade
" In the morning I go to the centre with my brother and friends. His name is Duje...a good reason for the celebration! We go to the Cathedral, walk around..I enjoy looking at the people dressed in national costumes...listening to the loud sound of church bells...In the afternoon my parents join us...we have ice-cream...late in the evening I enjoy fireworks, music on the open stage...and here comes the end- till next year!
